Glial Cell Line-derived Neurotrophic Factor (GDNF) is a disulfide-linked homodimeric glycoprotein. Itis a neurotrophic factor structurally belonging to the TGF-beta super family. The GDNF precursor encodes a 211 amino acid residue prepro-peptide that is processed pro-teolytically to a dimeric mature protein consisting of two 134 amino acid residue subunits. StemRD's GDNF is made in human 293 cells which renders natural dimerization and human-specific post-translational modifications. We purified this product through a series of chromatography to near homogeneity.
Purity: Greater than 95% by SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions and visualized by silver staining.
Biological Activity: The activity was determined by using a Elk-1 luciferase reporter gene assay in 293 cells cotransfected with cRET receptor (Worby, et al. Glial Cell Line-derived Neurotrophic Factor Signals through the RET Receptor and Activates Mitogen-activated Protein Kinase. J Biol Chem. 1996; 271:23619). The EC50ranges from 1 - 10 ng/ml.
